News: Jones-Drew Ends Holdout, Reports To Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars got some excellent news on Sunday when running back Maurice Jones-Drew ended his holdout and reported to camp. The NFL’s leading rusher from a year ago reported to the team’s facility early Sunday morning, where he talked with teammates and had a 40-minute conversation with head coach Mike Mularkey. Mularkey has gone on record with his decision to make Rashad Jennings the starter even if Jones-Drew reported, and it will be interesting to see if he decides to stick with his decision. MJD is scheduled to make $4.45 million this season and $4.95 million next year, and the Jaguars desperately need him to perform as they look to fight their way out from the bottom of the AFC South, where they finished a year ago.

MLB News: Strasburg Helps Nationals To Win In Second-Last Start

Washington Nationals’ pitcher Stephen Strasburg struck out nine over six scoreless innings of work on Sunday, but didn’t get the decision in a 4-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. Strasburg was excellent in what is expected to be his second-last start of the season, as general manager Mike Rizzo remains committed to his plan with shutting down the 24-year old once he reached 160 innings. Strasburg is scheduled to make what could be his final appearance of the season on Friday against the Miami Marlins, and his absence from what has been one of the best starting rotations in baseball could be a huge blow to Washington’s postseason chances.

NASCAR News: Hamlin Earns Second-Straight Victory With Win At Atlanta

Denny Hamlin held off Jeff Gordon down the stretch at Atlanta Motor Speedway for his second win of the season on Sunday, edging out his second-straight victory and fourth-overall on the year. The win moves Hamlin up to seventh in the Sprint Cup Series standings, and with four victories his spot in the Chase is pretty much guaranteed. Gordon finished second in the race, and while he moved up to 13th in the standings, missing out on a second victory could hurt him in a big way when the Wild Card spots are determined following next weekend’s race at Richmond International Speedway, the final stop before the Chase gets underway.

PGA News: McIlroy Trails Oosthuizen By Three Heading In To Final Round At Deutsche Bank Championship

Rory McIlroy is on the prowl once again heading in to the final round of this weekend’s PGA Tour tournament, as he trails Louis Oosthuizen by just three strokes with one day to play. McIlroy and partner Tiger Woods are both still in contention with Woods only three back of the PGA Champion, and it will be interesting to see if the South African can hold his nerve and close out the tournament on top. With McIlroy and Woods matched up at this year’s tournament, the betting spotlight will remain on the battle between these two fan favorites as they go head-to-head through the final round.
