SBC Sports Betting News – Injuries Make The Headlines In Col

An overview of the main game-related sports headlines this week tells you that some basketball teams are going to inhabit very tenuous situations because of injuries.

Boise State Sharpshooter Elorriaga Sidelined For Upcoming Game, Possibly Longer

You know that outlets are not going to devote too much attention to college basketball, but they might find it interesting to know that Boise State, a football school, has been unusually strong in basketball this season. The Broncos are trying to make a push toward an NCAA tournament berth in the Mountain West Conference, but they just received a setback in their larger efforts.

Jeff Elorriaga, a clutch shooter on the Boise State roster, is going to be sidelined for at least one game and maybe more. Raphielle Johnson of College Basketball Talk filed a story on Thursday with the basic details:

"(But) the Broncos will be without Elorriaga for Saturday’s game at Nevada and possibly even longer due to a head injury he suffered in Boise State’s 74-67 win over Fresno State on Wednesday night.

"Elorriaga hit his head on the floor during the first half of the game and did not return. This is Elorriaga’s second injury issue this month, as he suffered one in Boise State’s 79-74 loss at New Mexico on January 16. Elorriaga, who is averaging 11.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game, sat out Boise State’s loss at Air Force as a result of that concussion."

This is certainly something that a is going to pay attention to, and its effect is likely to be significant for Boise State, especially Elorriaga can't return next week for the Broncos.

Dwight Howard Cleared To Play After Having His Right Shoulder Examined

Various across the country are definitely aware of the news out of Los Angeles from Thursday evening. Dwight Howard, the center who has been enduring a miserable season for the Los Angeles Lakers, got some rare good news. He had aggravated a right shoulder injury in a Wednesday night game at Memphis, but after being examined by doctors the next day, he was cleared to play for Friday night's home game against the Utah Jazz. Howard had missed three games earlier in January after first hurting the shoulder on Jan. 4 against the Los Angeles Clippers. The uncertainty surrounding his health and the inconsistency of Howard on the court have both contributed to the Lakers' steady downward slide. The Lakers have been beset by all sorts of problems, including their on-court chemistry (or lack thereof) and the incompatibility of playing styles, which has chiefly involved Howard and team icon Kobe Bryant. The Lakers' lack of cohesion at the offensive end of the floor is a huge problem, but at least Howard will now be able to take the floor on Friday against Utah.

This event could easily shift the calculus in the Lakers-Jazz game, enough to perhaps give Los Angeles a decisive lift.
