SBC Sports Betting News – Marshall Henderson Suspension Make

An overview of the main sports headlines tells you that the Ole Miss basketball team is likely to be more of a betting underdog in the coming season. A summer news story hurt the Rebels.

Henderson, A High-Voltage Personality, Faces Considerable Difficulties

You know that are always looking ahead to the next sports season, not just the current one or the one that’s around the corner. For the people who publish , the process of doing homework never stops. Information always has to be gathered. Most sports bettors are looking ahead to college football and the NFL, but the people who establish betting lines have to be vigilant on even more fronts, including college basketball. A major story broke earlier this week in which one of college hoops’ most visible players endangered what remains of his career. Much as an involves many speculative kinds of activities as part of the larger theater of game playing, there will be plenty of speculation about Marshall Henderson’s fate after it was revealed that he failed a drug test, bringing about an indefinite suspension.

Hugh Kellenberger of USA Today offered more details in his story, updated on July 11: “Henderson, who was named Southeastern Conference tournament MVP and led the conference in scoring as a junior last seasons, came to Ole Miss a year ago with a checkered past that included an arrest on forgery charges stemming from when he was a high school senior. After failing drug tests in January 2012, he also served jail time. Henderson later responded on Wednesday after the suspension with a video via Ole Miss football player Denzel Nkemdiche's Instagram with the wording, ‘Public Announcement.’ In the video, Nkemdiche said ‘Free my boy Marshall’ and then asked a viewable Henderson, ‘What are your thoughts after today?’ Henderson responded, ‘Really sad.’ The video was taken down after 8 p.m. ET.”

Kellenberger’s story adds this bit of detail as well: “Henderson publicly apologized after directing his middle fingers toward an opposing fan during the NCAA tournament. On June 26, the NCAA reprimanded Henderson for his tournament behavior. ‘Marshall did some things in our last game that he wanted to make amends about,’ (Ole Miss head coach Andy) Kennedy said. ‘He regrets some of the things he's done in his competitive nature.’"

“Henderson, who averaged 20.1 points a game last season, was expected to play more point guard in the upcoming season, Kennedy said. ‘We want him to be stronger with the ball, and we want to run some offensive stuff through him.’"

The widespread assessment of Ole Miss for the 2013-2014 season will become much more pessimistic if Henderson does not take the court. It’s true that Ole Miss needed a late-season run to make the NCAA tournament, but Henderson was part of that run. It’s true that Henderson often takes lots of bad shots and will not enjoy a good NBA career (if any at all), but he still stretches defenses and draws so much attention from wing defenders that he gives his teammates chances to get putback baskets or open jumpers. Ole Miss needs Henderson on the floor to compete for another NCAA tournament berth next season.
