An overview of the main sports headlines tells you that the upcoming Major League Baseball All-Star Game is being redefined by all sorts of roster changes, just before first pitch.

All-Stars Come And Go Due To Injuries, Pitching Schedules, And Other Reasons

The foremost [urlhttp://www.betonline.com/]online betting sites[/url] will have to pay attention to pitching matchups and other relevant questions in connection with the upcoming MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday night in New York. At , analysts must reconsider the ways in which the pitching staffs and batting orders of the American and National Leagues will be altered. Much as an involves many speculative kinds of activities as part of the larger theater of game playing, there will be plenty of speculation about the effects of last-minute changes to each team’s lineup, in a game that will determine which league gets home field in the 2013 World Series.

A prevalent opinion that might have existed a week ago could change in the coming hours, based on all the changes that are emerging just before the Midsummer Classic. Here’s a summation of the changes from Matt Slovin of USA Today in an article from July 14:

“Just two days before the All-Star Game, the rosters are getting an overhaul as inactive players bow out of the festivities. For the National League, Mark Melancon of the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Francisco Giants closer Sergio Romo have joined Bruce Bochy's pitching staff. They will replace the Pirates' Jeff Locke and the Washington Nationals' Jordan Zimmermann for Tuesday night's mid-summer classic at New York's Citi Field.
“Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman, the winner of the National League Final Vote, will be kept out of the game with a thumb injury suffered Saturday. Atlanta catcher Brian McCann has been selected to replace him. Baltimore Orioles pitcher Chris Tillman was chosen by American League manager Jim Leyland to replace Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander. Oakland Athletics starter Bartolo Colon, who pitched Sunday, will be replaced by teammate Grant Balfour. Kansas City Royals closer Greg Holland will take the spot of Seattle Mariner Hisashi Iwakuma, who also started Sunday. Another shakeup is expected later this afternoon as another All-Star — Adam Wainwright of the St. Louis Cardinals — is scheduled to pitch Sunday, rendering him unavailable for Tuesday.”

Let’s realize before anything else that any player who has to make a last-minute appearance in the All-Star Game after not originally expecting to play will probably be mentally unprepared for the experience, especially if that player is not a veteran All-Star with prior exposure to this event and its bright lights. One can see from all the changes above that the quality of starting pitching on both sides is likely to decrease. Melancon and Romo are not better, as a combination, than Locke and Zimmermann for the National League. Tillman, Balfour and Holland are not better – as a trio – than Verlander, Colon and Iwakuma. It would seem that both sides are being equally hit by these changes, but one team might find a small edge in the course of events.
