College Football 2016 – Top 6 Quarterbacks

July 26, 2016 | Posted By Freddy Wills

Check out my podcast as I talk about:

Predict your profit with my prediction profit tool
#6 – Greg Ward.  Ward was one of 2 QB’s in 2015 to throw for 2,00 and run for 1,000 yards the other one will come on this list later.  What was impressive for Ward was he hit on 67% of his throws and Houston lost the only game he missed.  Ward is a clear dark horse for the Heisman this year.

#5 Seth Russel – Baylor has a great system for QB’s as was proven last year when they had to go deep into their depth chart.  They showed that Jarret Stidham who started 3 games was almost as effective as Russel.  Russell is back and I see no reason why he won’t be the starter and put up huge numbers with a talented receiver corps.

#4 Baker Mayfield – He was a Heisman trophy front runner at the end of last year, but lost some ground when he missed a game.  Many people may not like Mayfield because he wears his heart on his sleeve and plays a passionate brand of football that may be compared to Tim Tebow.  Mayfield completed 68% of his passes and a 36 -7 TD to INT ratio.. WOW!

#3 Chad Kelly- The only QB from the best conference in college football.  Kelly got it done against the best defenses in the nation last year in the SEC conference which I know we will talk more and more about.  He has a huge arm and mobile enough to make teams pay.  He should be only better this year after 31 TD to 13 INT and a 65.1% completion at Alabama all he did was throw 3 TD’s 0 INT for a 171.3 QBRating.

#2 JT Barret – Barret returns without the shadows of other great QB’s.  I think Barret is due for a monster season and has a lot to prove.  Of course as I have written and said before Urban Meyer always has a top 25 QB unit no matter who it is. Meyer’s programs have long term results and he has not always had a guy with Barret’s talent.

#1 Deshaun Watson – Clemson QB was great last year and some could argue he should have been the Heisman winner.  For that reason he has a lot to prove this year.  Watson was Clemson’s offense last year and he played great in the National Championship game against the nation’s #1 defense in Alabama who had 10 days to prepare as he had 73 rushing ayrds, threw for 405 yards passing with 4 TD’s and just 1 interception.  He’s the other serious dual threat QB on the list and I think he is due for another great year.

Honorable mention – Notre Dame duo of Malike Zaire and Deshaun Kizer.  We also have Washington State’s Luke Falk, UCLA’s Josh Rosen, and Texas Tech’s Patrick Mahomes, Brad Kaaya at Miami.
