Hot & Cold Probable Starters | Monday 7/25/11

Postby Freddy Wills » Mon Jul 25, 2011 10:04 pm

With all of our selections from Monday pending we take a look at Tuesday and there are a lot of hot pitchers going. We have a total of nine hot starters and only four cold starters over their last 3 starts combined. We have been hot of late with our going 36-16 (69.2%) over my last 52 picks for a profit of 64 units. We have reduced our season ending package to just $299 guaranteed or 1 month FREE! Stay tuned for packages and NFL packages very soon.

Angels -132 (1.5* FREE PLAY) How could we not back the Angels the way they have been playing and their stud ace and early favorite to win the AL Cy Young award Jerred Weaver. Weaver continues to dominate going 3-0 over his last 3 through 22.2 innings with a 1.10 WHIP and 1.19 ERA. He'll face the Indians Tuesday looking to keep the Indians ice cold. He's also on a rebound start vs. the Indians as he faced them earlier in the Year and gave up a rare 4 ER on 7 hits in 6 innings. I think that will motivate him a bit more here especially since his previous 3 starts vs. the Indians saw him give up just 1 earned run over 22 innings pitched. Weaver is also 7-3 with a 1.89 ERA on the road so his home and away splits are nearly identical. The Indians will face Josh Tomlin who is starting to head into unknown territory.

What I mean by that is he is a young pitcher and has had a lot success already in this year especially at home posing a 3.38 ERA and a WHIP under 1. He only walks 1.07 guys per 9 innings then again batting average with balls in play average is lucky at .250 and he does not strike out 5 K/9 so he has to limit guys getting on base somehow and right now it's control, control, and some more control. However, he's not used to throwing this many innings in a season already with 126 innings. Last year he pitched a little over 173, but most of that was at the AAA level and when he did come up he struggled with an ERA over 5. We have seen Tomlin struggle with a 6.35 ERA over his last 3 starts and I feel that is a sign of things to come.

Other Hot Starters L3 Starts:
C.C. Sabathia (2-1, 25 IP, 0.80 WHIP, 1.08 ERA)
Tim Lincecum (2-1, 19 IP, 1.21 WHIP, 1.42 ERA)
Vance Worley (3-0, 20.1 IP, 0.89 WHIP, 0.89 ERA)
Jeff Karstens (2-1, 23 IP, 0.87 WHIP, 0.78 ERA)
Chris Narverson (2-1, 19 IP, 1.11 WHIP, 2.37 ERA)
CJ Wilson (2-1, 22 IP, 0.86 WHIP, 2.05 ERA)
Justin Verlander (2-1, 21.2 IP, 0.92 WHIP, 2.08 ERA)

Cold starter with the best shot to win on Tuesday is Andrew Miller no questions asked. He goes up against the Royals who are struggling big time to score runs. Miller is playing for the hottest offense and although many may not realize by his stats he's actually pitched with some grit and he's getting the job done. Take out his 7 ER game vs. the Rays and he's 5-0 in his 5 other starts with a 2.86 ERA including 5.2 IP and 0 ER in his last start. Boston faces a lefty where they are hitting .324 and scoring 7.17 runs per 9 at home while the Royals are .237 and 3.19 runs per 9 vs. LHP on the road that is a difference of 4 runs.

Other Cold Starters L3 Starts:
Josh Tomlin (1-2, 17 IP, 1.35 WHIP, 6.35 ERA)
Jake Arieta (0-3, 16.1 IP, 1.84 WHIP, 6.61 ERA)
Jake Peavy (0-3, 16.1 IP, 1.71 WHIP, 7.16 ERA)
