News: Rangers Continue To Hold Off Angels

The Texas Rangers capped off their three-game set against the Los Angeles Angels with a 9-5 win over their division rivals on Sunday, earning the decisive victory in the series. The Angels entered the set just two games back of the defending AL champions, but couldn’t close the gap despite the fact that their top two starters each got the call in the series. Meanwhile in the National League, the Arizona Diamondbacks opened up their lead in the West division with a 6-1 win over the San Diego Padres in which their newest players Aaron Hill went deep with his first home run in his new uniform. The Diamondbacks have now won six in a row to extend their division lead to four games over the defending World Series champion San Francisco Giants, who fell to the Houston Astros 4-3 in extra innings.

News: Brees, Saints Open Things Up Against The Raiders

With Terrelle Pryor watching from the sidelines, New Orleans Saints’ quarterback Drew Brees carved up the Oakland Raiders’ secondary for 189 yards and led the offense on three touchdown drives. Brees and the Saints’ offense looked dominant with Mark Ingram and Pierre Thomas both scoring one-yard touchdown runs. New Orleans didn’t slow down once Chase Daniels came into the game to replace Brees, as he threw for another 191 yards and two touchdowns. The Saints clearly looked ready for their regular season opener, while the Raiders will have more work to do in their final preseason game, with Pryor set to finally see some game action.

News: Bolt Stunned In 100M World Championships

As Usain Bolt took the track in anticipation of the 100M World Championships race on Sunday, nobody projected that he would lose the race in an even faster time than he ever won one in his career. But after a second false start penalty that disqualified him from the race, Bolt was left absolutely stunned. The man who set the world records in the 100M and 200M at the 2008 Beijing Olympics will now turn his focus to the 200M race, but he remains disappointed after a penalty that would have meant a warning in previous years netted him a disqualification.

Soccer News: Rooney’s Hat Trick Leads To 8-2 Win Over Arsenal

Manchester United may have been favored to beat Arsenal this past Sunday, but it’s unlikely that anybody could have projected the outcome of this game. Buoyed by a hat trick from Wayne Rooney, United thumped their league rivals 8-2 in what Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger called, “humiliating”. It marked the first time that Wenger’s club had allowed eight goals in their 115 year history, and it came at a time when the team is facing some big question marks. United’s win wasn’t the only blowout of the day though, as Manchester City got the best of Tottenham in a 5-1 win in which Edin Dzeko scored an incredible four goals.
