News: Vick Suffers Concussion As Eagles Grounded By Falcons

In the most highly anticipated contest of the season so far, Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons delivered by scoring 14 unanswered points in a fourth-quarter comeback win over Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles, prevailing 35-31 Sunday night. Vick threw for two touchdowns before leaving the game in the third quarter with a concussion, and the Falcons took advantage from there by shutting down Philadelphia rookie Mike Kafka the rest of the way and scoring consecutive touchdowns to win the game. Vick wasn’t the only star player that went down in a loss yesterday, as Jamaal Charles likely tore his ACL in a 48-3 loss to the Detroit Lions. Charles is expected to have an MRI on Monday to reveal whether the tear did occur, and if it had then his season will be over. It wasn’t all for nothing for players with injuries though, as Tony Romo fractured his ribs but managed to help the Dallas Cowboys rally for a 27-24 win over the San Francisco 49ers. Meanwhile, in the most exciting game of the weekend, the Buffalo Bills scored a touchdown on all five of their second-half possessions to beat the Oakland Raiders 38-35.

News: Rays Narrow AL Wild Card Deficit To Two With Win

Despite losing David Price midway through the game after the All-Star pitcher took a line drive off of his chest, the Tampa Bay Rays managed to rally together for an 8-5 win over the Boston Red Sox on Sunday for their third win of the four-game series. Matt Joyce went 3-for-4 with three RBI in the victory, which narrowed Boston’s lead over the Rays in the American League Wild Card race to just two games. The Red Sox have now lost 11 of their last 14 games and that downward spiral has put their postseason hopes in jeopardy, while Tampa Bay is still very much alive. With the division races all but clinched, the AL Wild Card race will be in the spotlight over the next 10 days as the Rays brace for the New York Yankees and the Red Sox look to bounce back against the Baltimore Orioles.

News: PAC-12 Reaches Out To Texas, OU

With news breaking over the weekend that the ACC has reached out to extend its membership, there are new reports about the PAC-12 engaging in active discussions with both Texas and Oklahoma about how to complete a transition to their conference from the Big 12. Talks have heated up with both programs over the past week, although the conference’s presidents have made it clear that they would prefer not to expand beyond 12 teams at this point.

Golf News: Woods Holds On To No. 49; Qualifies For Own Event

Tiger Woods had to have been relieved when he saw the official rankings after failing to qualify for the BMW Championship this past weekend, as he remains seeded No. 49 in the world despite not participating. According to the criteria for the Chevron World Challenge tournament that he runs every December, only the top-50 are eligible to compete. Over a period in which his reputation has been torn apart and his game has plummeted, Woods has to be relieved that at the least he is still eligible to play in his own tournament.
