NFL Sports Betting News: Cutler Could Miss Remainder Of Season For Bears

Whenever a quarterback tries to make a tackle on a broken play, his entire team seems to hold their collective breaths hoping that it will not lead to a significant injury. When it doesn’t the team is able to exhale and carry on knowing that their leader will be back in the huddle on the next offensive possession, but when that quarterback does get injured, the ramifications could be destructive. That is the case with the Chicago Bears after learning that Jay Cutler will need surgery to fix a broken thumb on his right hand during Sunday’s win over the San Diego Chargers. Cutler injured his finger attempting to tackle Antoine Cason following an interception with just less than 10 minutes to play in the fourth quarter. With Cutler potentially out for the year, Chicago will turn to backup Caleb Hanie, who has played in just two games the past two seasons.

NHL News: Crosby Finally Makes His Return

After sitting out for nearly the first two months of the season, Pittsburgh Penguins’ captain Sidney Crosby finally declared himself ready to play on Sunday. Crosby will skate against the New York Islanders Monday night, and should provide a major boost to a team that already ranks first in the Eastern conference with 25 points, particularly by adding another element of offense on the road where the team can force opponents to choose between him and Evgeni Malkin to set their top checking line against. The Penguins went 5-5-2 away from home without Crosby this season.

News: Weekend Leaves National Rankings A Mess

The LSU Tigers remained undefeated this past weekend with a dominant 52-3win over Ole Miss., and therefore continued to ride the momentum of their perfect season to lock down the top spot in the national rankings. Beyond the Tigers however, there was a ton of change as three top-five ranked teams all faltered, with the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Stanford Cardinal, and Oklahoma Sooners all losing. That allowed the Alabama Crimson Tide to slide back into second overall, and potentially set the stage for a rematch between the two SEC rivals with the national title on the line. The Tigers and Tide were joined by another SEC team with the Arkansas Razorbacks climbing to No. 3 with a 10-1 record, while Virginia Tech climbed to fifth, right behind Oklahoma State at four.

NASCAR News: Stewart Clinches Sprint Cup Series Title

With five-time defending Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson out of the running, the 2011 title came down to a battle between Tony Stewart and Carl Edwards, with the former coming out on top in the final race of the season. Stewart won the race at Homestead-Miami, with Edwards coming in second, a result that pushed the two in to a tie at the top of the standings. The difference? Stewart had five total wins compared to just one for Edwards, whose consistency didn’t pay off when it mattered the most.
