Betting News: Boudreau, Maurice Out In Southeast Division

While both coaches were talked about all offseason as possible candidates to be replaced, few could have predicted that both Bruce Boudreau and Paul Maurice would be fired by the Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes respectively on Monday. The Capitals made their move after dropping consecutive games to remain three points back of the Florida Panthers at the top of the Southeast division, while the Hurricanes are at the bottom of that group on the heels of three straight losses. Washington will replace Boudreau with former play Dale Hunter in hopes that the move will spark the struggling franchise, while the Hurricanes have brought in former Montreal Canadiens’ assistant coach Kirk Muller to try and turn things around.

NCAAF News: No Surprise As LSU, ‘Bama Remain On Top

There weren’t many surprises this week when the BCS rankings were announced and the top two teams from the SEC were once again representing the top two spots in the BCS national rankings. While the No. 1 LSU Tigers are set to play the No. 14 Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship game this weekend, anything other than a dramatic upset will leave the Tigers on track for a rematch with the No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide in the BCS title game. While they will have a tough time moving any higher, the No. 3 Oklahoma State Cowboys are in an interesting position with the chance to make a statement against the No. 10 Okahoma Sooners in the Big 12 Championship game also this weekend. While the rankings remained largely unchanged, a team outside of the top-25 made a huge move to open the week, with the announcement that the Ohio State Buckeyes have hired Urban Meyer to coach the team.

NFL News: Eagles’ Playoff Hopes Fade; Tebow Wins Again

The New England Patriots fired another blow at the Philadelphia Eagles’ playoff chances with a 38-20 win that dropped the “dream team” to 4-7 on the year. Philadelphia led the game 10-0 in the first quarter, but Tom Brady and the Patriots came storming back to move in to a more comfortable position at the top of the AFC East. Meanwhile, while the Eagles’ playoff hopes continued to fade, the Broncos continued their fight to keep their playoff hopes alive with a 16-13 overtime win at San Diego, their fourth straight victory and fifth in five games under quarterback Tim Tebow, who now has them one game out of a playoff spot.

NBA News: NBA Irons Out Details Of Proposed Season

After finally coming to terms on a new collective bargaining agreement over the weekend, the NBA continues to announce the details for their proposed season, which will consist of 66 games beginning on Christmas Day. According to the new format 48 games will be played within the conference, which puts an even bigger onus on earning a playoff spot against the teams that you are fighting to get in against. Teams will not play three straight games more than three times, but the condensed schedule will make things much tougher in regards to fatigue from travel.
