NBA News: Bryant, Williams, Rondo All Star In Sunday Slate

With the Los Angeles Lakers set to host the Miami Heat, and the Boston Celtics hosting the New York Knicks, there was no doubt that there would be some fireworks this past Sunday in the NBA. However, while the Lakers and Celtics both came out on top at home in their respective games, the real story of the day was some of the incredible individual performances that took place. After opening the game five-for-five and scoring 12 of the Lakers’ first 16 points, Kobe Bryant settled down a bit and finished with a game-high 33 as Los Angeles cruised to a 93-83 win. While much had been made about his potential rivalry with Dwayne Wade, it was Wade that was watching from the bench in the fourth quarter after fouling out for just the second time in seven seasons, finishing with just 16 points. Bryant’s performance came on the heels of another dominant line, as Boston’s Rajon Rondo recorded his fourth triple-double of the season in a 115-111 overtime win against the Knicks. Rondo registered 18 points, 17 rebounds, and 20 assists in the victory, making Celtics’ management look that much dumber for trying to move him. However, even after both Rondo and Bryant each put on a show, the best was yet to come in a franchise-best 57-point performance from New Jersey Nets’ guard Deron Williams in a 104-101 win over the Charlotte Bobcats. Williams was 21-for-21 from the free throw line in the win, finishing with 57 and adding seven assists and six rebounds.

Betting News: Rangers Beat Bruins For Fifth-Straight Time

If there was any doubt about which Eastern conference team deserves to be considered the favorite, the New York Rangers eliminated it with a 4-3 win over the Boston Bruins on Sunday. The win marked the fifth straight time that the Rangers have beaten the defending Stanley Cup champion Bruins dating back to last season, with one final meeting in this year’s season series scheduled for early April. Elsewhere on the ice, the Philadelphia Flyers handed the Washington Capitals their second straight shutout with a 2-0 win, while the Chicago Blackhawks held on for a 2-1 road win over the Detroit Red Wings.

Golf News: McIlroy Holds Off Tigers To Move To No. 1

Rory McIlroy held off former world No. 1 Tiger Woods to win the Honda Classic on Sunday, elevating himself to No. 1 in the world in the process. McIlroy showed excellent poise and confidence as he rebounded on a couple of holes in the final round to save par and stay the course, finishing the tournament at 12-under, two strokes ahead of Woods. With his fifth career-win, McIlory becomes the 16th player to reach No. 1 since the ranking first began in 1986.

News: Wildcats Complete Undefeated SEC Season

Another double-digit win over the Florida Gators helped the top-ranked Kentucky Wildcats complete their sweep of the SEC this season, one of the most incredible accomplishments in the history of the league. Anthony Davis continued his excellent play with 22 points and 12 rebounds, while Terrence Jones added another 19 in the win. Kentucky will hold down the No. 1 spot in the rankings with their most recent win, while the Ohio State Buckeyes climbed back in to the top-10 to No. 7 with a 72-70 road win over the Michigan State Spartans that puts them back in to the top spot in the Big Ten heading in to Championship Week 2012.
