News: Marshall Breaks Wrist In Tar Heels’ Win

The North Carolina Tar Heels were never actually in trouble in their 14-point third-round win over Creighton on Sunday, but after the game the team announced why they will have a tougher time winning games going forward to the Sweet 16. The Tar Heels will be without starting point guard Kendall Marshall for the rest of the tournament after he suffered a fractured wrist midway through the second half of North Carolina’s win, occurring when he took a hard foul from Creighton’s Ethan Wragge. The second-team All-ACC selection played about eight more minutes in the game after the injury, realizing later on how bad his hurting wrist was. The news of Marshall’s injury was among the biggest surprises of the day as North Carolina State’s win over Georgetown as an 11-vs-3 was the biggest upset, although many people actually figured the Wolfpack could get the job done. The Tar Heels advanced to the Sweet 16 where they will be heavily favored again against Ohio, but with an Elite Eight matchup against Kansas right around the corner they will be in tough without Marshall.

Betting News: Flyers End Penguins Win Streak; Hawks Clip Capitals

Scott Hartnell scored twice and was an absolute menace on the ice all afternoon as the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 in overtime, snapping the 11-game winning streak of their Atlantic Division rivals. The Flyers actually trailed by two before Hartnell and Timonen both scored in regulation to tie, with Hartnell netting the game-winner in front of a packed house at the Wells Fargo Center in one of the more intense games of the regular season. Elsewhere in the East, the Winnipeg Jets watched their playoff hopes take another blow in a 4-3 loss to the lowly Carolina Hurricanes, although the Washington Capitals remained just two points ahead of them after losing to the Chicago Blackhawks. Meanwhile, the Western conference playoff picture continued to come in to focus with the Calgary Flames dropping a crucial shootout loss to the last-place Columbus Blue Jackets, leaving them two points out as well.

NBA News: Wade Scores 14 In The Fourth As Heat Torch Magic

One week after the Orlando Magic had their way with the Miami Heat on home court, the Heat returned the favor with Dwayne Wade scoring 14 of his game-high 31 points in the fourth quarter as Miami took the 91-81 win. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers suffered just their second home loss since Christmas in a 103-99 defeat at the hands of the Utah Jazz, and the Oklahoma City Thunder continued to roll with a 111-95 win over the Portland Trail Blazers.

Golf News: Donald Back On Top Of World Rankings Following Win

With six players tied for the lead towards the end of the back nine, golf fans knew it would be a close finish at the PGA Tour Transitions Championship on Sunday. Ernie Els actually had the chance to end the tournament as the late leader before he bogeyed on each of the final two holes, falling one stroke back of a group of four that would participate in a playoff to determine the winner. Luke Donald, Jim Furyk, Robert Garrigus, and Sang-moon Bae all tied at 13-under, but it was the former World No. 1 that came through with the birdie on the first playoff hole, as Donald reclaimed his spot atop the world rankings with the Transitions Championship win.
