Tennis News: More Drama As Sharapova Ousted By Lisicki At Wimbledon

The upsets at Wimbledon continued on Monday, with the top seed on the women side Maria Sharapova being eliminated by No. 15 Sabine Lisicki in a windy, rainy fourth round match. The top-ranked player in the world Sharapova was attempting to become the first woman to win the French Open and Wimbledon since Serena Williams did it in 2002, after completing the career Grand Slam with a win at Rolland Garros last month. The result came through only shortly after Williams held on for a 6-1, 2-6, 7-5 win over Yaroslava Shvedova to advance. On the men side, Roger Federer advanced with a 7-6, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 win over Xavier Malisse to advance past the fourth round once again.

Golf News: Tiger Passes Jack With Win At Congressional Sunday

Tiger Woods closed with a 2-under 69 to win the AT&T National at Congressional on Sunday, clinching his third victory of the PGA Tour season and passing Jack Nicklaus for second spot on the career wins list. The win was the 74th of Tiger’s career, and while he stayed at No. 4 in the world rankings, he did move to the top of the PGA Tour money list and the FedEx Cup standings for the first time since September of 2009, a sign of how much he has progressed over that span. Woods looked very good for most of the tournament, but the highlight certainly came on a stretch of 41 straight holes without a bogey, as Tiger showed off his skill at one of the most difficult courses on the Tour.

Soccer News: Spain Outclasses Italy For Euro Championship

The Spanish national soccer team added another chapter to its string of dominance over the past six years, blowing away an Italian side that was reduced to 10 men for most of the second half in a 4-0 win to become the first side in soccer history to successfully defend their European championship. Spain has put a monopoly on World soccer with two Euro titles and a World Cup trophy over the past six years, also become the first nation to win three consecutive major tournaments.

News: Rangers, Yankees Dominate All-Star Voting Results

Josh Hamilton drew a record total of more than 11-million votes for the 2012 All-Star Game in Kansas City, leading the way as one of seven Texas Rangers’ players voted in to the Midsummer Classic. Hamilton is joined by Mike Napoli, Adrian Beltre, Ian Kinsler, Elvis Andrus, Matt Harrison, and Joe Nathan at the event, with no other team coming close to matching the Rangers’ production. Of course, considering Texas has the top-ranked offense and the best record in the majors, it only makes sense that they have the most players in the game as they look to claim home-field advantage for the 2012 World Series, something that could end up being an advantage to them down the road if they make it all the way for the third-straight season. Meanwhile, the New York Yankees will send three players to the All-Star game, with the San Francisco Giants also sending three players for the NL roster.
