Golf News: Tiger Will Play With Sergio, Rose At Open Championship

Tiger Woods’ pursuit of a fourth Claret Jug and 15th major championship will begin Thursday at the Royal Lytham & St. Annes on Thursday, site of the Open Championship. Woods has already won more tournaments than any other player on the Tour so far this season, climbing to fourth in the overall rankings, and will spend the first two rounds of this tournament as the favorite alongside Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose. The last time that Woods won the Open Championship it was Garcia that he played against during the final round. Meanwhile, defending champion Darren Clarke will play alongside Ernie Els and Zach Johnson, with Lee Westwood, Bubba Watson, and Yoshinori Fujimoto in the next group. World No. 1 Luke Donald will play with Phil Mickelson, and Geoff Ogilvy.

MLB News: Yankees Leave Bases Loaded In Ninth; Lose To Angels

With the bases loaded and two out in the bottom of the ninth, Alex Rodriguez walked up to the plate with the chance to complete the New York Yankees’ comeback trailing 10-8 to the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday. However, Rodriguez popped out to end the game with all three runners stranded, and the Yankees blew an excellent opportunity to complete the three-game home sweep. While the loss was tough on Rodriguez, a couple of other notable performances made headlines in the American League. Justin Verlander pitched eight scoreless innings, giving up just three hits while striking out eight in the Tigers’ 4-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles, while Yoenis Cespeded went 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in the Athletics’ 9-4 win over the Minnesota Twins.

NASCAR News: Kahne Earns Second Cup Win Of Season

Kasey Kahne came out of nowhere to steal his second cup win of the season at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Sunday, beating out Denny Hamlin for the lead after the latter ran in to some confusion with his pit crew over a late tire change. Hamlin’s Toyota led for 150 of the 300 laps, but that mental lapse at the end opened just enough room for Kahne to slip through for his second win. Clint Bowyer, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Brad Keselowski rounded out the top-five, while Jimmie Johnson returned to the top-10 with a seventh-place finish.

NBA News: Knicks Expected To Let Lin Go

With two days left to match the Houston Rockets’ offer sheet for Jeremy Lin, it appears as though the New York Knicks are ready to let him leave. The Knicks have already agreed to a sign-and-trade deal with the Portland Trail Blazers to acquire Raymond Felton, and since they would be forced to match the $30 million offered to Lin, sources say they are more prepared to move forward without him. Carmelo Anthony took a swipe at the contract offer by saying that it would a ridiculous deal, and while some still feel as though there is a chance that New York could match it, all signs point to Lin moving to Houston over the next couple of days.
