ACC College Football Betting Recap | Week 6

Georgia Tech vs. Clemson

How many people saw this coming?  Tech was only a 7.5 point under dog and were just man handled by Clemson.  There was a lot of talk by so called “experts,” referring to this game as a possible “Clemsoning” situation, but it clearly did not happen.  Georgia Tech was supposed to be the better more experienced team this year, but I really don’t know what happened they really have not played well.  My formulas loved Tech this past week and I just could not pull the trigger after looking at the match up.  Georgia Tech was still a very popular play among sharps this past week, but Clemson out gained them by 300 yards and led 40-10 in the third quarter.

Outlook perspective: I have to say I am now a believer in Dabo Swinney.  They have won 33 straight against un-ranked opponents, and have beaten a lot of good teams along the way in bowl games and non-conference play.  The term “Clemsoning” definitely needs to be changed to something else related to the USC Trojans perhaps?  Clemson looks like they should stay undefeated heading into their showdown with Florida State on November 7th with BC, Miami, NC State all looking like winnable games.  BC has no offense, Miami has no defense, and NC State has neither.  There is a chance Swinney could go undefeated and I would give them a great shot at making the college playoffs.  You have to love how Swinney responded to the press this week:

Miami vs Florida St

Florida State looked a little shaky in this game where I thought their offense should have been able to do whatever they wanted.  Their offensive line is still a major issue in pass protection, but Everett Golson is being very careful with the ball which was not something you could claim about him last season.  Dalvin Cook is carrying this team and needs to be entered into the Heisman watch as he’s averaging 9 yards per carry now and Florida State remains undefeated.  I do have to say I don’t think he will make it all season long.  I was surprised he made it back in this game after grabbing his hamstring after a long run.

Outlook perspective: Let’s start with Miami, because their coach is obviously on the hot seat and they had a chance to win this game, but they could not get it done in the end.  I think it’s absolutely unacceptable that this defense is ranked 112th in yards per play allowed with the talent level they have and he will be gone by the end of the season.  They get Virginia Tech at home this game followed by Clemson at home and a huge shot to right the ship, but I don’t see this team getting up for Virginia Tech after their loss to Florida State and I just proclaimed my love for Clemson.  For Florida State it is hard to really understand how good this team is or can be.  If they played this week they would lose to Clemson, but .   so they sit undefeated, but they have 3 games to get better.  Their home game this week against Louisville, who is coming off a bye week and the Seminoles are 7 point favorites, but this is a very dangerous game especially if Cook gets injured.  This may be the game Golson has to win with his arm.

NC State vs. Virginia Tech

Well one thing is for sure NC state is over rated and Virginia Tech still is not willing to quit on their coach.  After only a 100 yards the week prior against Pittsburgh, they put up 358 against an NC State team that’s defense was pretty highly coveted coming into the game.  How good is Pitts defense or how bad is NC States defense?

Outlook perspective:  Virginia Tech goes on the road to face Miami who definitely will be in a let down spot considering they had the ball with a chance to beat their rival Florida State and I believe they gave everything they had to win that game.  The value is absolutely on Virginia Tech for that game at+6.5 and if my algorithms like the match up for the Hokies I will probably take them.  NC State gets a bye week to regroup after their 4-0 start they have lost their first 2 games in the ACC and have put up a total of 26 points.  I feel we can not over react this right now.

Virginia vs Pitt

Pittsburgh jumped out to a 17-3 lead, and the Virginia squad proved they have a little more guts than in years past by making a late game of it.  I still think Mike London gets fired at the end of the year, but this team has shown late in games that they are not afraid to get aggressive.  I just wonder why they can’t show some heart early in a game.  Pittsburgh pretty much had this game in hand the entire game and deserve a lot of credit now with their only loss coming on the road by 3 points to an undefeated Iowa team.   Pat Narduzzi has these guys playing some very good defense they now rank 4th overall in yard per play allowed.

Outlook perspective:  Pitt goes on the road now to face Georgia Tech and are only 3 point under dogs which pretty much shows you the oddsmakers have given up on Tech.  Meanwhile Virginia has a very winnable game at home against Syracuse to help their goal of making a bowl game, but this team does not deserve to be an 8.5 point favorite against Syracuse.  I know Syracuse lost big to South Florida, but that was a challenging travel spot for the Orange after facing LSU the week before at home.

Wake Forest at BC

Not much to report here.  Wake Forest did not even have 200 yards and they win this game 3-0.  Both offenses are pretty pathetic and Boston College continues to struggle with a new offensive line.  Really the Boston College beat themselves here fumbling on their own 5 which led to a Wake Forest field goal.  Boston College with 1 minute to play and 3rd and inches on the Wake 5 fumble the ball.  Wake Forest then fumbles it back to them with under a minute, and then with 1st and goal and 16 seconds to play this happens:

Outlook perspective – Hard to back either one of these teams at this point. Boston College goes on the road to face Clemson and are 15.5 point under dogs, which I feel holds some value after all they played them tough last year and Clemson did show some struggles against Louisville, another good defense at another point.   Wake Forest also on the road against North Carolina as a 13.5 point under dog and the idea that they have this dominant defense is a little misleading they now rank 39th in yards per play allowed, but haven’t played any offenses worth noting until this week.
