Big 10 College Football Betting Recap | Week 6

Northwestern vs. Michigan

3 straight shut outs for this Michigan defense and one huge game coming up.  Check out the highlights in my blog.  Not too much to talk about here as I was way off about Northwestern after backing them in previous weeks correctly.

Outlook perspective – They are 6.5 point favorites against Michigan State.  The line absolutely would have been different if you asked in the beginning of the season, but Michigan has looked so great and Michigan State has looked so bad that they almost have to be.  The value is on the Spartans and I have to wonder what will happen.

Mich St vs Rutgers

Michigan State continues to struggle in games and it’s really mind boggling with so many guys returning.  Rutgers ended this game with a spike on 4th and 1 so that was also pretty puzzling.  If there is one positive to take away form this game it’s that Connor Cook passed for 350+ yards and is clearly the best QB that Michigan’s defense will face this upcoming weekend.

Outlook perspective:  This line definitely tells you what the oddsmakers think of Michigan and Michigan State.  The hype on the Spartans has been dying week after week, and you have to wonder if they have been saving something.  I need to take a closer look at this game, because I don’t see how the value isn’t on Michigan State.  Probably the biggest question is who can pressure the QB more, because the team that wins is going to have more success in the passing game.

Illinois vs. Iowa

Illinois continues to hang in there against every team they face.  Iowa still dominant vs. the run and forced two turnovers that changed the outcome of this game.  Iowa was lucky to win the week before for the same reasons.

Outlook – sets things up for an interesting match up at Northwestern and Iowa is getting a lot of credit form the oddsmakers and I don’t see why?  Northwestern is a 1 point under dog at home against Iowa and I can’t help but think that’s a huge over reaction to what happened with Northwestern this past weekend.

Wisconsin vs Nebraska

This is a tough one to swallow if you are a Nebraska fan as their 4 losses have come by a combined 11 points.  Wisconsin could have won this game late with multiple field goals, but they definitely chose to win it with more drama.  I really liked the way Wisconsin looked late in this game as they finally started to dominate the line of scrimmage.  Joel Stave played extremely well and picked apart a Nebraska secondary that continues to struggle which may be an under statement as they now rank 94th in yards per pass attempt allowed, and 127th in yards per game allowed.

Outlook perspective: Mikey Riley just sounds so defeated and it’s going to be interesting to see how this team responds.  It won’t get any easier with a tough road game at Minnesota this week and they are currently a 1.5 point under dog after opening up as a 2.5 point favorite.  It’s actually a pretty good match up for them if they can rally the troops, because they are good vs. the run it’s the pass as we mentioned that they struggle against.  For Wisconsin I think they are getting better as the season goes along and should be favored in many of their final games.  Paul Chryst started to show late in this game he was getting the running game going as well.  They face Purdue this week and close out the season against Illinois, Rutgers, Maryland, Northwestern, and a road game against Minnesota.  All look like games they will be favored in.  They avoid both Michigan’s as well as Ohio State.
