Read more..1st HALF RECAP: I mean this first half was just completely crazy. let me first make a consesion and say that I gave out Syracuse as a a top play tonight. Lamar Jackson is a stud accounting for 5 TD’s in the first half, but he also has an INT at the end of the half that was costly. Louisville got off to an extremely fast start with their offense and it seemed to take the life out of this Syracuse team. Louisville got it done with big plays to get the 21-0 lead in this game and it looked like it was going to get extremely ugly. Then Syracuse got into a groove on offense and scored behind their up tempo offense and it looked like they could get back in the game and the college football pick that I gave out to clients would still have a shot. It was 21-7, and another big play from Louisville and Syracuse just could not get a groove on offense despite forcing two turnovers and a punt since. Read more..Week one is in the books and we went 7-2-1 ATS, 8-2-1 on the season when you count the Hawaii opener. Honestly, I could have gone 11-0 which I will get to in a bit as we look at each bet and go over the games we gave out to clients. In case their are ever any doubts. Read more..Penn State made a significant change in their offense by bringing in offensive coordinator Joe Moorehead who is bringing in a completely new system that he ran at Fordham. Penn State’s offensive line brings back 4 of 5 of their offensive starters and believe it or not the unit dramatically improved from 2014 to 2014 improving from 111th in adjusted line yards all the way up to 44th. Trace McSorley sounds like he’s going to be the starting QB, and should be excited to run this offense that should average around 80-85 plays according to Moorehead which will put Penn State in the top 20, they were 115th a year ago. The skill position is absolutely loaded with talent and the potential is there for this offense if they can find a QB to be one of the best in the Big Ten. In Moorhead’s four seasons in charge of the Rams, he took a 1-10 program and turned it into an FCS playoff team for three consecutive years. He posted a 38-13 record in his time with the Rams. Read more..Western Michigan +5 at Northwestern: Western Michigan is a popular pick in week one among many professional handicapping experts this week. I will not be playing it. I like Western Michigan’s experience returning on offense and PJ Fleck has done a great job recruiting, #1 in the MAC. However, I’m not ready for them to beat Northwestern who still has enough returning, and arguably another great defense, especially in the back 7 led by Matthew Harris who should be able to take Corey Davis away. Overall, I just don’t see value in Western Michigan at this number. I would have liked to see them at 7 or higher, but going on the road against Northwestern, a team that runs the ball 60% of the time and is returning their star RB in Jackson. Western Michigan was 116th vs. the run last year and they just do not match up that well in my opinion. I get why many like Western Michigan, it’s their offense, but my strategy is to typically back the underdog when they have a good defense. Read more..During last year’s podcasts we came up with many NCAAF Predictions based on some of the mistakes that Vegas makes. This is especially true in the lower conferences like the MAC Conference where Vegas was off by 10 or more points against the spread 71 times last year. I make a point to talk about this in my podcasts about public perception and when Vegas thinks they can make money. It typically happens after a bad loss or a bad win against the spread. Before we look at what happened in 2015 lets take a look at who is favored to win this conference based on the college football odds. After a Cover of 10+ATS: College football against the spread in the MAC Conference has some interesting statistics. When we look at the following week after a team covered the spread by more than 10 points. MAC teams went a combined 18-17-3 ATS which on the surface does not look like a great advantage for anyone. It looks perfectly normal, but we looked at teams over .500 vs. teams under .500 and the results are staggering and make a lot of sense.
